Rev. David Gibbons

David Gibbons was born in London, England and went to school in Portsmouth. His undergraduate degree in Math and Physics led to a six year period working in IT before training for ordained ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, Oxford and completing a BA in Theology. This training included an exchange year in Berkeley, CA, at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, which is an affiliate of the Graduate Theological Union, providing students with the opportunity to study at a range of denominational colleges. It was here David met Susan and they were married in March 1995 in Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.

David was ordained deacon in 1984 and priest in 1985 in Portsmouth Cathedral, while serving as assistant curate to the combined parishes of Holy Trinity, Ryde and St Michael’s, Swanmore on the Isle of Wight, just off the south coast of England. A first incumbency post at Christ Church, Gosport was twinned with responsibility for the Colleges of further education throughout the diocese of Portsmouth. In 2001 David was appointed Rector of Havant where he worked for 7 years building strong links to the community and growing the church of St Faith’s as a vibrant center of worship and community. In 2006 David graduated with a MA in Christian Spirituality through the University of Wales.

David has been Rector of St Mark’s since August 2008. He and Susan have two daughters, Elise and Sophia.
