Offers a variety of social services and programs for senior citizens, including “Care 2 Share”. Volunteers are needed to commit one hour per week assisting homebound seniors with projects in the home or running small errands. Training is provided.

Christmas Basket Program

Participants prepare a basket with gifts and food items for families in need and older single persons. Baskets are collected at St. Mark’s for distribution by Cathedral Shelter of Chicago.

Church In Action Committee

This group meets monthly to identify and support outreach projects. A monthly calendar is published to communicate church activities and needs to the congregation.

CROP Walk

Helps provide funds to fight world hunger locally as well as nationally and internationally. Volunteers are needed each fall to serve as walkers, sponsors, assist with registration, or contribute chili or cupcakes.

Episcopal Charities and Community Services

Twelve agencies further the social service ministry of the Diocese of Chicago. Funding comes from individuals, parish donations, as well as endowment income.

Bishop Anderson Institute

The institute sponsors hospital pastoral patient and family care; lay pastoral training, continuing education for clergy, deaf and hearing impaired services; HIV/AIDS support groups; and Operation Bear Hug, a special ministry for children.

Cathedral Counseling Center

Sliding scale outpatient mental health services with sensitivity to both psychological and spiritual concerns.

Cathedral Shelter

Residential and outpatient addiction treatment; food distribution; emergency social services; supportive housing for formerly homeless persons and families recovering from addiction. Volunteers are needed to staff three hour shifts on Saturdays 9 a.m.-Noon and Noon - 3 p.m. This is a good volunteer opportunity of families.

Lawrence Hall Youth Services

Residential, special and alternative education programs; employment training and job placement; independent living; relative specialized and regular foster care; and early childhood intervention.

Montgomery Place

Senior citizen retirement housing, nursing and special care facility for 250 residents.

St. Edmund’s Academy

An elementary school which prepares children to reach their full potential as citizens through a rigorous academic program, enrichment activities, and the promotion of civic awareness and social responsibility.

St. Gregory Episcopal School

School for grades kindergarten – 8th grade, enrolling boys from throughout Chicago; low tuition and scholarships; high school placement assistance.

St. Leonard’s Ministries

Rehabilitative services for men at St. Leonard’s House and women at Grace House recently released from prison; individual and group counseling; substance abuse counseling; transitional housing; employment assistance.

St. Mary’s Services

Domestic and international adoption services; placement counseling for adoptive parents and birth mothers; birth parent support group.

Shelter Care Ministries, Rockford, Illinois

Temporary housing, counseling and advocacy for homeless families and persons living with HIV/AIDS, drop-in center for mentally ill/homeless persons; community soup kitchen.

Urban Center at St. Barnabas

Comprehensive neighborhood-based services for low income families and individuals; day shelter for the homeless; medical care; employment assistance; food distribution.

Youth Guidance

School-based services for youth; individual, group, and family counseling; crisis intervention; counseling and creative arts; employment development; vocational education; Comer School Development Program.

FISH Barrington

New volunteers are in helping to provide medical related transportation, one day a month, for neighbors living within the boundaries of School District 220.

FISH Carpentersville

Toys and non-perishable food items are collected at St. Mark’s in November and early December to help bring Christmas joy into the homes of needy children. Volunteers are needed to assist with the distribution through the FISH Food Pantry in Carpentersville.

Heifer Project International

An interdenominational organization which promotes self-reliance and provides income for families around the world through the gift of livestock. HPI provides 22 types of food and animals as well as training in animal husbandry, sustainable farming and community development. Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising efforts.

Meals with Wheels

Delivers meals to homebound persons living in the Barrington area. Volunteers are needed to spend no more than two hours delivering meals one Friday per month. Substitute drivers also needed.

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)

PADS operates a homeless shelter on Thursday nights from October through April in Barrington’s Lutheran Church of the Atonement. Volunteers serve a shift one Thursday per month: 7-11 pm, 11 pm – 3 am, 3 – 7 am, or 7-8:30 am. Training at prescribed times.

Ravenswood Community Services

“Just Neighbors” program strengthens the Ravenswood Community by building connections between people from different points on the economic spectrum; plans and organizes service activities; food pantry and Community Kitchen providing warm meals on a monthly basis. Volunteers needed on Tuesday evenings, 6-9 p.m.
